Stroud Bicentenary Opening Ceremony & Worimi Smoking Ceremony

A Journey Through Time

Join us at Quambi for the official opening of the Stroud Bicentenary Celebrations, marking 200 years since Robert Dawson and his party first arrived at Stroud in November 1826.

The morning will commence with a Worimi Smoking Ceremony, acknowledging the enduring connection of First Nations people to this land and recognising the deep history of the area that predates European arrival.

Through a series of special presentations, stories and reflections, we’ll explore the journey that led to the establishment of Stroud, the role of the Australian Agricultural Company and the people and events that shaped the town we know today.

Descendants of Robert Dawson will join us to share stories of his pioneering journey and the man behind Stroud’s European discovery. With contributions from the Worimi community, the Dawson family, local historians and special guests, the ceremony will provide an opportunity to reflect on Stroud’s rich and layered history.

Held at the historic Quambi, one of Stroud’s State Heritage-listed Group of Four Buildings, the ceremony will officially launch a week of Bicentenary celebrations.

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy morning tea (Gold coin donation apprecaited), before continuing the celebrations at other scheduled events.

Come and be part of this significant milestone as we honour the past, celebrate the present and look towards Stroud’s future.
